Series Theme: Physical and Emotional Resilience

December 5, 12, 19, 26  11 AM EST

There's an old Irish drinking song that goes, "I get knocked down, and I get up again, You're never gonna keep me down..." Life is just waiting to knock us upside the head. Moshe Feldenkrais defined health as the ability to recover from shock. One of the best ways to build resilience is to develop the ability to get back up. In this series we will get down, and get up again, as well as other strategies for helping us navigate stressful times, so that you can experience comfort and joy this holiday season.

Years ago, Moshe Feldenkrais predicted that one day, Awareness Through Movement lessons would be broadcast around the world. He probably never dreamed that people would actually be able to see the teacher and each other during the broadcast. You can now enjoy Awareness Through Movement lessons in the comfort of your own home. The classes are offered in a series of four lessons, and then two weeks off. Using Zoom, I will be able to see you as you do the lesson. Or if you prefer, you can join the class without video – I just won’t be able to see you. You can also choose to record the lesson for yourself using Zoom’s technology. However, anyone who signs up will also receive a link to a free, cleaned up download of the lesson, so if you can't attend, you still get the lesson. Listen to a sample class now! You need to have broadband wifi, and a webcam (so I can see you.) Ipads and smartphones also work – you’ll just have to download the Zoom App. Once you register above, you will receive a confirmation email with further instructions. You will need to be at your computer 5 minutes before class so that we can link cameras and computers, and familiarize ourselves with Zoom.

I love lavinia’s online class. It is one of the best Feldenkrais classes that I have attended.(and I attended many)I also love that she sends her students a clear edited recording of each session to practice at our own time.

Last summer, I started riding again. What I’m finding is that, even though my riding skills are rusty, I am able to integrate my instructors’ feedback much more quickly because I have so much more awareness of my body than I did before. And in particular, since I started doing your classes, my riding has started improving at an even faster pace. I recently worked with a new instructor for the first time, and the first thing she said: “I like that lower back!”. In the past, I have had issues with a tight, hollow back in the saddle; I am quite sure this positive feedback is largely because of what I am learning through the “smart way to a strong core” and “back on the beach” lessons. It seems like every lesson you’ve chosen has a direct (and positive!) application to my riding.

I also enjoy hiking in the hilly forest around my current home in Corvallis, Oregon. I can now handle the hills more easily and can hike more distance. I believe this is due to using my body more efficiently and letting go of unproductive tension. The hikes are now more refreshing and less tiring.

Thank you so much for making this information available, and especially in such an accessible format!

Lavinia’s on line lessons are an invaluable resource to get out of pain and get back to the ease that our body has capacity for…but we lost out of habit, stress or injury. Lavinia’s clarity and excellent teaching makes it simple do these lessons with her from the comfort of our own home. I am grateful Lavinia is committed to making this profound learning method available to as many people as possible thru her online series. If you haven’t tried it…. don’t wait!! You’ll be glad!

    This is a fabulous experience!

Through their computer (or phone) camera, Lavinia is able to watch as participants follow her live instructions, and her ability to notice what is going on with students’ bodies in the process is keen and very helpful.

The only thing missing are hugs with other students and Lavinia before and after the class – otherwise, it’s just like being in her studio or at a workshop. I wish she offered this twice a week every week!

I felt taller today when the class ended, and more easefully flexible – which is saying something for me given the physical challenges I’ve been healing from/through.

If you cannot do a movement as directed, Lavinia is great about reminding you to amend it, get creative, and often offers specific suggestions of how to try an alternative/modification. These classes are designed to meet you where you are – regardless of physical condition or ability.

If you are new to Feldenkrais, this is a great, accessible, affordable and high quality way to “get your feet wet”. And if you’ve been practicing for some time, I believe you’d find yourself also well met here.

    Thank you, Lavinia!!!

I also want to thank you for the series on self-image. Over the past couple of weeks, I noticed that I seemed to have more confidence and assurance, but didn’t really make the connection to your class. This summer. Last week, I was marveling at how I seem to be flowing along in my life and managing things in a more confident way. Then, the light bulb went off and I realized it was the lessons. Through the processes, I released the negativity I had taken in over the summer, even though I didn’t know I had embodied the experience.

Many thanks and heartfelt appreciation for the important work you do.

I enjoyed this last series very much — as usual. Interesting observation: When I was in residence at our retirement community on St. Simons in late spring, I fell backwards onto a concrete sidewalk when I stepped off the sidewalk onto a paved — but uneven — asphalt surface. Amazingly, I experienced no soreness or lasting discomfort after the shock of the unanticipated landing. My body apparently went into “auto-pilot” and reacted as though I were in a Feldenkrais classes.

I just wanted you to know I believe that doing Feldenkrais is the single most important thing that I am doing for my overall health (mental, emotional and physical.) It is truly amazing!
after today’s lesson I feel my world opened up more,
i’m already much more observant, aware of my surroundings it’s thrilling!
Thanks so much for everything! THANK YOU!

Just left the dentist from a cleaning. I wanted to share with you that today’s lesson really helped my anxiety with dentists. The room was actually a sun room with beautiful trees outside, and I could just focus my eyes, softening and it really relaxed me. many times Feldenkrais has helped me with my body issues but I think this was the first time that it helped me mentally and spiritually.
