Once Upon a Time:

A Somatic Adventure of Mythology & Fairy Tales

MAY 23 – 27, 2024 in Asheville, NC.
taught by Lavinia Plonka & Candy Conino

There’s magic everywhere—in the whispering of the trees, in the license plate in front of you in bumper to bumper traffic that says UR42N8, in the chance meeting of a future lover in the grocery store. For thousands of years, humans have woven their lives out of stories, making a world out of myth and dreams.

We all live in a world of story, being created for us, and created by us every moment. Your Creative Body can run amok drowning you in despair and misfortune, or you can harness your creative abilities to engage the magic of awareness. As Jean Houston, one of Feldenkrais’ original US students, often said:

It’s time to create new mythologies to serve us now.”

This 5 day immersion into the power of story invites spontaneity, playfulness and imagination into an investigation of Kinēsa’s principles, especially choice, presence, power and perception. Movement lessons, inquiry, games and thought experiments weave together as we unpack the wisdom of folk tales, fairy tales and personal stories that make up the world we live in.

“…the mind is the body and the body is the mind. The only reason we see them as being separate is because of how we are.”

— Carl Jung

Getting There

Asheville, NC is a popular destination nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains with a lively arts and culinary scene.

Travel to Asheville (AVL) has become easy with flights on many major airlines. Other nearby airports include Greenville-Spartanburg (GSP) in South Carolina and Charlotte (CLT).

Lodging

You have your choice of many Airbnbs, and dozens of hotels for any budget. Public transportation is not great, so if you are not renting or sharing a car, you will want to pick lodging that will be convenient to Asheville Movement Center, or be ready to Uber (there are plenty of Ubers available, as well as our own local company, AVL Rides).
